First Post!

Hey all!

So my name is Mary. I'm a freshman in college, (hopefully) majoring in Education with a minor in Special Education. I've decided to start another blog. I've had 2 in the past, but kinda gave up on them. Haha, I guess we'll see how far along I get with this one.

I guess this has no theme or whatever to it. It's gonna be random and that's okay cause being random is my thing. Some days, I might be super ecstatic about something, or other days I might feel the need to bitch about something. Or even some days, I might be in between.

This may or may not be boring, but I guess we'll try it out and see how it goes!

Spiritual Numbness

You know that feeling you get when you don't feel right? Like, you're just, off. Almost like you don't have an opinion about much and nothing really seems that great to you. 1 Semester Down, 7+ to Go

My first semester of college is almost over. I, Mary Kathryn Ahlberg, survived my first ever semester of COLLEGE. I can't believe I did it. After a plethora of papers, exams, stressful days, and accomplishments, I've just about finished my first semester of college. It still doesn't feel real. I feel like I'm at a camp just doing extra work in order to go home. I still feel like I should be at OHS as a senior, going through my block-schedule day, eating "A" lunch, sitting in choir working on the latest Eric Whitacre piece with my classmates, talking to P-Shives instead of going to the bathroom during class time, and working towards my tassel, since it is worth the hassle. But I'm not. I'm in a whole new world with thousands of people who don't know me or my background. From the Girl Who Dreams About Her Future Children Before Her Career

In a society where having a bachelor's degree and becoming successful in your occupation is pushed down your throat, it almost feels wrong to want something else than that lifestyle. The majority of American's have a job and are all focused on a few specific ideas: work in order to become higher up in their occupation and receiving a big paycheck. But what if you're like me and have dreams that don't necessarily line up with societal norms? As a woman in 2017, I have been told and taught, mainly by my college professors, to do something that empowers me and makes me feel more like a woman. I'm supposed to get a college degree and aim to achieve high. I should be dreaming of becoming a successful woman in society and want to be at the exact same levels as men in my job field.
